Hugo Barata (1978) Artist/Curator. Lives and works in Lisbon. Attends the Masters in Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Lisbon, in Painting. He has exhibited his work since the beginning of the two thousand year, having participated in several individual and collective exhibitions. He works mainly in painting, sculpture and video, and is work is represented in several private and public collections, in Portugal and abroad. He also develops research work and independent curatorship of exhibitions, in museum institutions and alternative platforms. Among the latest exhibition projects, the exhibitions The Age of Divinity, Plataforma Revólver, Lisbon, DIG: Digging for culture in a crashing economy, Plataforma Revólver, Lisbon, 2012, and Uma ideia nova declares itself with an unprecedented definition, (artist/curator) Plataforma Revólver, Lisbon, 2012. Recent independent curatorial projects include Curating the Domestic - Images at home, Trienal de Arquitectura de Lisboa, OBSERVADORES - Revelações, Trânsitos e Distâncias, Museu Colecção Berardo, Lisbon, 2011, Sucking reality, BES - Arte e Finança, She is a Femme Fatale#2, Faculdade Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Campus de Caparica, 2010, and She is a Femme Fatale#1, Museu Coleção Berardo, Lisbon, 2009. Associate member of Teatro do Silêncio, with artistic direction by Maria Gil. He also works in an assiduous and profound way in artistic education. Among his most recent projects, the exhibition Pequenos Monumentos (Small Monuments), with Ana Rito, at Sala do Veado - MNHNC.
