O Armário is an independent project that takes place in Lisbon at number 128 Calçada da Estrela. Its first exhibition took place in June 2014, as the continuation of the project ‘A Montra’, which occupied a shop window facing Calçada da Estrela in the same building between 2013 and 2016. Curated by Benedita Pestana it has been the stage for more than 40 interventions by artists of all predilections.

Stripped of its utilitarian function, the Cabinet is composed and decomposed in the hands of the artists, presenting itself as what it is: a piece of wooden furniture, 2 metres high, 1.18 metres wide and 0.35 metres deep; made up of two glass doors, three removable shelves and two drawers with brass handles. With a certain Duchampian flavour, the project is based on the logic of site specific, inviting artists to develop a work adapted to their circumstances and morphology. The works can be closed behind the Cabinet's glass doors, or extended to the room where they are installed. The artist is given carte blanche, with the condition of not damaging the object.

In 2022 e 2023, ‘O Armário’ became mobile and ventured out in a journey that began in Coimbra at the Colégio das Artes, with an installation by Gisela Casimiro, traveled to Almada to Casa da Cerca with a  work by Alexandre Estrela. Stopped at Maus Hábitos, in the city of Oporto with an installation by Inês Brites. Continued to Caldas with Von Calhau! to the Museu José Malhoa and before returning home in June 2023 with a work by Luisa Cunha, ‘O Armário’ still passed in Évora with an installation of Belén Uriel.
